I am saddened to see what is happening in Ukraine.

The unjust and prolonged war is causing untold misery and suffering for the Ukrainian people. Their country is being destroyed, lives are being lost, their houses are crumbling and their hopes and dreams are being shattered.
I also admire the courage, determination, strong resistance and heroism of the Ukrainian people as they fight back against the Russian invaders.
I have fond memories of Ukraine. As a young lad serving in the Indian Navy, I was sent to the city of Izmail in Ukraine in 1976 and I studied at the Naval Officers College in Izmail.
My Russian language teacher was a Ukrainian lady. I corresponded with her after my return to India, but I have lost contact after all these years.
I pray that the war in Ukraine ends soon. The Ukrainian people desperately need our encouragement and support.
I am happy that Canada is welcoming Ukrainian immigrants and refugees.
